Many families don't know where to start when looking to adopt. We want to help with a few suggestions!
It’s always best to look into no kill centers around your community. In Tennessee, the Young-Williams Animal Center is a great place to find a perfect pet for your family. Young-Williams is the largest no kill animal center in Tennessee, and is in the top 25 animal centers in the US. They take in roughly 10,000 animals a year and spend around $12,000 a day to maintain operations and care for their animals.
Young-Williams never turns down an animal. Not only that, but they support animals in the Knoxville community in many other ways. Their animal compassion fund raises money to pay for the medical treatment and surgeries of animals in need. They also run a spay and neuter program where they spay and neuter stray cats for free to stop the stray population from growing. Additionally, Young-Williams works to support families who are struggling to keep their animals due to economic rough times.
When you adopt from a shelter like Young-Williams, you are helping an animal in need and supporting a great organization. Not only that, but adopting is significantly less costly than buying from a store or breeder. You won’t need to worry about the extra expense of vaccinations when adopting from a shelter.
We are Paws With A Cause, a group of 5 students raising money and awareness for Young-Williams Animal Center. We have seen first hand the benefits this center brings to the Knoxville community, and to animals' lives. Our goal is to raise $1,000 to help Young-Williams maintain daily operations, and to raise awareness around the benefits of adopting instead of shopping for animals.
Our members will post individual blogs introducing themselves and writing a little more on the topic!

Hi, my name is Alyssa, I am currently a sophomore at the University of Tennessee, and I am working towards a marketing degree. To get to know me a little more, some of my hobbies include running, going to concerts, going on fun adventures with my friends, reading, and hanging out with my dogs. In the picture above is my dog, she is a Maltipoo (Maltese-poodle mix). She was just a puppy when we got her but has become my best friend in dog form. I have always been surrounded by animals, growing up I had two cats and three dogs, which were all rescued from a shelter. I am originally from Georgia and so we went to the Animal Humane Society, but here in Knoxville the Young-Williams animal center is a great option for a no-kill center full of kittens, puppies, and more.
Working with this campaign has been a very fun and eye-opening experience. I have learned so much that goes on behind the scenes and more of the difficulties not seen as a customer. I feel so much more connected to the non-profit and feel like I have a better understanding of the importance of shelters such as the Young-Williams animal shelter. During the campaign, I helped set up the narrative, helped edit the video, and reached out too many sources to help spread the word. We have $50 dollars worth of donations and only hope to see progress as the campaign moves forward!
It has been so great to be a part of this group and meet new people, who I might not have known without working on this fundraiser. We would love all the support we can get be sure to check out the link below for more information!
Dan Branton:
Hello. I am Dan Branton, a junior supply chain major at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. I am a part of a fraternity here on campus called BYX. Some things I like to do include playing sports; I enjoy spending time with friends, watching movies, and playing video games. I also am a big animal lover. Gidget is the name of the dog you see in the picture. That is one of the several dogs that my family has. She is almost two years old, and she is one energetic dog. Another one of my dogs, named LuLu, was a blessing. When we got her, she was in really ruff shape. We adopted her from this family and immediately noticed her condition. Several trips to the Vet later, she is living a happy life. I am glad to say that my family saved her life. Living on a farm, I loved animals back in Sevierville, Tennessee. Young-Williams has been an amazing experience, to say the least.
Our campaign has allowed me to work with a wonderful organization in Young-Williams. They are great options for a no-kill center. And it's made me realize the value of animal shelters. These people have a real passion for taking care of these animals. Many of their helpers are volunteers. Which shows the commitment Young-Williams brings. This campaign has also allowed me to work with a wonderful group of people. I Could not have asked for a better one. As we have contacted family, friends, and other connections, we are now at $285 raised for our campaign. Our goal is $1,000. I can see us only getting closer to our goal. If you would like to contribute to our campaign, we would happily appreciate it. Check out the link below for more information on donations.

Kendall Markesi:
Hey! My name is Kendall, and I am a sophomore here at UTK, majoring in Business Analytics with a collateral in Finance. I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. I love being here in Knoxville, and a few of my hobbies are going to UT games, hanging out with my friends, and volunteering at Young-Williams Animal Center, a local no-kill animal center here in Knoxville. I started volunteering for YWAC a little over a year ago, taking dogs out of the shelter for "doggy day trips." Now, I am a member of "Paws With A Cause" working to raise money for Young- Williams! I have met so many of the dogs at Young-Williams, one being Kirk, who is pictured above on the right. I have been able to hear firsthand these dogs' stories and have seen how YWAC is helping them find a fur-ever family.
From my experience volunteering, adopting a dog from a local animal shelter is a great route to go when looking for a new companion. All that these dogs need is an opportunity to show how loving, fun, and sweet they are, but there is sometimes a stigma behind dogs from animal shelters. Young-Williams Animal Center not only provides amazing love and care for their animals, but also behavioral training, and medical treatment. Our campaign is working to raise $1000 to help YWAC maintain their daily operations, because they spend around $12,000 a day. We have already reached over 28% of our goal! Any and all donations are welcome to support this amazing non-profit.
In Knoxville, all my furry friends are from Young-Williams, but at home in Nashville, I spend all my time with one dog: Mia! She is a one-year-old Miniature Schnauzer, pictured above on the left. Mia entered our life a year ago as a puppy, a few months after our previous dog passed away. It was hard going from having a constant source of joy and companionship to being in a house without a dog, but bringing Mia home changed everything for the better. Even though I live 3 hours away, I consider myself to be Mia's favorite. This is because we got her during my winter break when I was home for almost 2 months, so I have been with her since the very beginning. Now, Mia always comes up in conversations with friends and family for her spunky and silly demeanor. Mia makes life so much more interesting and fun, plus she is super cute. I am constantly asking for pictures and stories of her and I am always looking for excuses to go home and see her!
All that being said, pets are a great addition to any family, and if you get your pet from an animal shelter, or support a local animal center in other ways, you can help change an animal's life forever! By supporting our campaign, Paws With A Cause, you can help make a difference in the Knoxville community, as well as in the lives of the thousands of animals that Young-Williams Animal Center takes in each year. Every family deserves a companion, and every animal deserves a fur-ever home.

Jonathan Diaz :
Hey there! My name is Jonathan and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. I am a Sports Management major with a minor in business with the hopes of either pursuing facility management, sports relations, or other fields in the future. I enjoy spending time with my friends, playing guitar, playing basketball, and many other different activities. Along with working a job at Flemings Prime Steakhouse, I am also currently a YoungLife leader at Farragut High School! I have been the freshman leader over the last year and I have had an absolute BLAST being a part of such an awesome group/team!
Something about me that I relate to with all of my group member is my love for my pets! I have two dogs and one cat, Jax (Black), Luna (White), and Simba(Not pictured)! Jax and Luna are actually brother and sister! We got them from my moms friend from work when they were about 10 weeks old. They can brighten up any day with their loving, affectionate personalities. Simba's story is very, very different. On a hot summer morning, we found Simba outside in the beating sun in our backyard. He could've only been weeks old and you could tell he needed help and a family, so we took him in! He is hands down the coolest, most relaxed cat I have even seen.
Working with Young Williams Animal Center has only been an absolute joy, but it has also been extremely insightful. Prior to this campaign, I simply thought they were just another dog pound. This being said, I had the pleasure of truly learning about all the Young Williams does along with what makes them so great. During my time working with paws with a cause, I worked with providing our video camera, taking pictures and videos that would be edited by Alyssa, and participated in creative thinking for our campaign and possible events. Though working with THE best non-kill shelter in Tennessee, my passion and love for our furry friends has both deepened and become so much more rich. We are at about $290 raised, and I can't wait to see how that can go towards benefiting our furry friends!

Grace Wallace
Hi, my name is Grace, and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Tennessee. I am majoring in business marketing, and I have recently picked up a minor in event planning. I grew up in Suwanee, Georgia, and Knoxville has definitely become a second home to me. I spend most of my time hanging out with my friends, working out, attending sorority events, and reading. In the picture above is my dog. Her name is Penny, and she is a cavapoochon (a cavalier, bichon, poodle mix). My family and I adopted her when I was 14 years old, and she has been the greatest addition to our family. Ever since I was little, I have always loved animals and had a passion for helping them in any way I could. Working with the Young-Williams Animal Center has been an amazing experience. After visiting the shelter multiple times, it is clear that the Young-Williams Animal Center takes amazing care of its animals, employees, and guests. I have had such a great time being a part of this campaign and working with my dedicated team.
Running this campaign alongside my team members has been so rewarding and eye-opening. Although Young-Williams may seem as though it is a basic animal shelter, it is much more than that. Young-Williams and its staff strive to provide care for abandoned animals and pay vet bills for families in need, and they have created a compassion fund to support the shelter's needs. During my time with Paws With A Cause, I have helped create multiple assignments, visited the shelter itself, and participated in collaborative thinking for the campaign.
Support the largest no-kill shelter in Tennessee and give these animals a second chance at life! By supporting our campaign, thousands of animals in the Knoxville community will find their forever homes. So far, we have raised $290, and we can't wait to see how your donations positively impact this amazing shelter.

Final Group Blog:
As our campaign is coming to an end, we wanted to write a last blog post to update everyone on our successes as Paws With A Cause. Over our short campaign, we have raised $290 (29% of our $1,000 goal). We have been able to accomplish this by advertising the campaign through social media, word of mouth, and reaching out to friends and family. We will continue to make efforts to raise more money before the campaign officially ends.
With that being said, we would like to thank all of our donors and supporters of Paws With A Cause throughout the course of the campaign. This success wouldn’t have been possible without all of you. On behalf of Young-Williams Animal Center, thank you for all of your support!
